This project was developed around the idea of offering an official application for the Public Library of Catalunya that would allow a series of main functions so that users' needs would be met. Through the briefing proposal, the following project was developed.

Problem

The problem was that the Public Library of Catalunya did not have an official App for people to access main functions and meet their needs.

  • Access and consultation of the digital catalog

  • Advanced search

  • Viewing and downloading of digitized files

  • Schedule of activities, events, and exhibitions

  • Personalized user area

  • Loan requests and renewals

  • Interactive library map

  • Real-time user support channel

  • Notification and alert system.

Solution

The solution was approached through general objectives and requirements that were established for its functional and effective development:

  • Facilitate access and consultation of the digital catalog in a clear and intuitive way

  • Offer functional and accessible navigation

  • Create a complete digital experience with remote document consultation

  • Promote the digitization of Catalan bibliographic heritage and its global dissemination

  • Accessibility tools for inclusive navigation

  • Platform optimized for mobile phones and tablets

  • Interactive section with events, exhibitions, and Library news

Research

User Persona - Situations - User Journey - Card Sorting

Through the provided user personas, a series of situations were proposed in which users would use the App, and User Journeys were generated to observe and contextualize needs and identify the requirements and objectives that the App had to fulfill.

Define

After analyzing the collected information, a series of functional, non-functional, information and data processing, and environmental requirements that the application had to offer were defined.

Ideate

Content tree - Workflow - Wireframe

Flow diagrams were created based on the situations and user journeys for App navigation, and corresponding wireframes were developed.

Solution

Prototype - Next steps

The proposal was presented through a prototype that allowed recreating users' navigation through the App. As next steps in its development, it is noteworthy that among the functions that were not addressed are the interactive map and the real-time consultation channel.
